I'm Peter

Having started my journey from a young age, I always had two goals for my professional life.

First, I wanted to solve hard problems using software. I was a child in the 90's and early 2000's, when the internet was really exploding. In 2000, at the age of 11, my dad showed me a website on how to learn HTML. This was a time where rounded corners were achieved only using images positioned at the corners of table cells. I was instantly hooked, and started experimenting for a few years. Then MySpace, the first popular social media website, came along. They allowed users to customize their profile by inserting HTML, CSS and minimal javascript directly into different profile sections. I found ways to create profile layouts that went beyond the normal layouts MySpace allowed. It was after that that I moved my skills to server-side languages such as Java and C#, and have been working with all kinds of languages for the past 35 years and counting.

My second goal was to use the lessons I learned from solving those hard problems to lead and influence people. I believe in the saying "the rising tide lifts all boats." Information is better when it's shared with others as we all encounter many of the same or similar problems. I spent a year during the COVID lockdowns assisting a teacher at Toll Gate High School teaching Computer Science. Around the same time, I started mentoring and managing two engineers at StudentUniverse. I was responsible for hiring them and seeing them through solving their own hard problems with software. They taught me just as many lessons, if not more, than I attempted to teach them.

I am also a family man, with a beautiful loving wife and two amazing children. I wouldn't have made it through this journey called life without them and I owe much of my success to their ability to motivate me and keep me on track.
